JT brings over 30 years of combined technical and practical experience to the Eclipse team. Prior to his structural engineering career, JT worked for ten years as a framing foreman in Seattle, Washington. The skills he developed as a contractor and crew leader has had a direct translation into the structural engineering field. The breadth of his experience gives John the ability to directly translate his clients vision into constructible designs and solve complex issues during construction with innovative and elegant structural solutions.
JT has managed projects of all sizes and complexities; ranging from small residential houses, to highly detailed Mormon temples, to the comprehensive rehabilitation plans and seismic upgrades of National Historic Landmark buildings.
Outside of work, JT spends most of his spare time chasing his golf ball after an errant drive. He has nearly perfected (albeit self-proclaimed) the hooded 5-iron, hook shot, from behind large conifers that block his approach to the green. Aside from golf, John’s favorite hobbies include flyfishing and woodworking. Landing a large rainbow trout on light weight rod, or crafting fine pieces of furniture with intricate joinery methods provide him with the relaxation he needs after a busy week at the office.
We at Eclipse are truly excited to offer our full array of structural design services to the Portland area market. We look forward to the opportunity to develop new and sustained relationships within the Portland A/E/C community in the days, months, and years to come.
“It has been my pleasure to work with John for most of his 20-year career as a structural engineer. One of John’s greatest attributes is his ability to develop strong and lasting relationships with the clients he serves. This is a result of being extremely attentive to their needs and consistently exceeding their expectations. A very sophisticated owner’s representative once pulled me aside during a meeting to tell me ‘John is the best engineer I have ever worked with.’”
“John was a terrific person to work with on the New Redmond City Hall. With John’s responsive and collaborative approach, we were able to successfully meet our project goals on this unique and intricate rehabilitation project.”
“JT is one of the best structural engineer’s I’ve ever worked with. John’s attention to detail and proactive approach from concept through construction make him a valuable asset to any design team. He is a team player through and through and takes great pride and ownership in the quality of his deliverables.”
I have worked with John for over a decade on National Park Service work for both new construction and complex historic rehabilitations. John does not hesitate to dive into 100-year-old crawlspaces and attics to assess conditions, determine code deficiencies, and make appropriate recommendations. He is quick to recognize the significant attributes of historic buildings and works to take full advantage of the structural capacity of archaic materials to minimize the impact of our interventions. I truly appreciate his ability to step up and partner with our clients towards achieving the best value at every step through project development. John is a tremendous asset to our design team!
“It has been an absolute pleasure working with a structural engineer that is truly committed to helping us provide the owner with an excellent product. JT’s proactive approach, team mentality, and responsiveness during construction greatly assisted us with maintaining our project schedule despite many unforeseen challenges and weather delays. John was willing to take a phone call to help me understand what options we had in working through each of the challenges. Response time to structural RFI’s and submittals was measured in minutes rather than days; this is a testament to JT’s team oriented approach and helpful attitude during construction. I look forward to our next opportunity to work together.”
